How Are The San Diego County Schools?
This is a frequently asked question, and a valid concern.
Schools in California are ranked in deciles from 1 to 10, with 10 being
the best. So of course everyone wants to go to the 10 school.
To save you a lot of time, here's the best school districts:
Poway, Encinitas, and Carlsbad. North County cities like Oceanside,
Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido are ranked 6 or 7. This is
actually better than average, since the state average is 5
by definition.
You'll notice that the better scores
are usually found in the more expensive areas. Sometimes you may have
to choose between a smaller house with a 10 school or a bigger house
with a 7 school. There is no right or wrong answer, it just depends
on what's important to you at this stage of your life. Our kids went to school
in Vista and in Carlsbad, and both schools were fine.

The state publishes their school report annually, called
the "Academic Performance Index Report". The scores are listed
under the column "2006 Statewide Rank."
